Tools Needed

Pliers
Needlenose pliers
Small vicegrips
Flathead & Phillips screwdrivers
1/4” and 3/8” small wrenches

Disassembly

1. Remove the grip panel from the left (ram) side of the Typhoon or Stroker.

The QEV has three sections: the square center section and two round sections. Unscrew the round sections from each QEV by gripping each section in visegrips and using 1/4” wrench on the square part of the fitting. Loc-Tite has been used on the QEV assembly so some force is needed to break the pieces free. After disassembly, use a needle or other thin implement to scrape the remaining Loc-Tite from the threads. Take care not to lose any of the rubber components from the QEV.

3. Use a razor cutter to cut the hoses just below the barbs; there will be enough length in the hose for reinstallation.

4. Remove hose barb from rear of ram with a 3/8” wrench or socket. Remove brass 90* elbow/barb from front of ram with a screwdriver. Carefully remove hat and hose from the rear barb (use needlenose pliers and razor cutter for best results), and remove the screw section of the front elbow from the assembly.

5. At this point, you should have two disassembled QEVs, both ram hoses disconnected with cleanly cut ends, no barb fittings on the ram, and the rear barb and the front elbow screw. These parts will all be used during installation.

Installation

1. Install the rear barb into the long round section of one QEV. Use a drop of Loc-Tite to seal and secure the barb. This will become part of the forward QEV.
2. Using medium strength Loc-Tite on threads (just a drop) and the 3/8” wrench, screw the square sections of the QEVs onto the ram (one in front, one in back). 3. Replace ends of QEVs. The shorter section is the exhaust end and should be in the front of both QEVs for a "clean look". To properly install the ends, thread the front elbow screw into the female threads on the ends. This will allow you to use a screwdriver or 1/4” wrench to turn the ends until they are fully threaded into the QEV square section; use a drop of Loc-Tite on the QEV end male threads before threading. Once the ends are fully threaded, unscrew the front elbow screw from the QEV section (make sure this does not cause the QEV section to back out) and repeat. The long round section with the barb already installed can be tightened down using the wrench flats on the barb.

4. Screw the 90* hose barb onto the back of the rear QEV with a drop of Loc-Tite and a screwdriver. The barb should be oriented to point slightly toward the gun so that when the grip panel is replaced, the hose will lie flat against the grip and angle out to the barb.

5. Replace the hoses on the barbs and push the hats over the hose-barb connections. Replace the grip panel.
6. Gas up the gun and test for leaks. Reset Rock regulator pressure and have fun dry-firing your new, faster Typhoon or Stroker.
